World Tapping Circle
The Outcome
The Challenge
With over 10,000 subscribers, the World Tapping Circle needed a branding update. Designs from previous years were pixelated and busy. Sonya Sophia wanted to use the design from famed Art Nouveau artist, Louis Théophile Hingre's work, "Paris Voltaire".
Since the design would be rendered in poster format, I was challenged to rebuild the classic image in vector format for scalability, and I was challenged to illustrate a custom portrait of Sonya Sophia for brand recognition.
The Role:
From the beginning, I provided honest, tough-love consulting on building a quality brand for the World Tapping Circle. I convinced Sonya to lean towards a cleaner, aesthetic to avoid the "horror vacui" craze that plagued the late 1800s wherein artists filled every blank space with filigree.
Once we decided our artistic direction, I reproduced the parts of the image that were to remain, illustrated the portrait, and added the additional "Spirit Animals" and typography to the back side. The project was finished off with a vintage textural overlay and a color saturation.
The digital flyer now has over 550 comments and 32 shares. Attendance for the 2018 burn had quadrupled. Sonya Sophia was beyond tears and the World Tapping Circle team expressed profound gratitude for the work.
